Send Us Your Maps

The Hand Drawn Map Association relies on your contributions to keep our collection growing. We accept submissions via email and postal mail. Please choose whichever method is convenient for you.

Our goal is to share the maps you have found or created with the widest audience possible. To this end, we assume you agree with our terms and conditions whenever you submit a map. Our collection is curated, and submissions are generally posted to the site within a few weeks.

With all maps, please provide any information you would like included with your map such as location, name of contributor, date, and description. The stories behind the maps are an integral part of what makes them interesting.

Postal Mail

Mail your original paper map to the address below. This is our preferred method as your map will become part of our permanent, physical archive as well. Please note our new address effective March 2011.

Terms and Conditions

Our goal is to share our collection of maps with the widest audience possible. To this end, by submitting work to the HDMA you grant us permission to use your submission as indicated below. You still have the right to use your material in any way you see fit, you are simply allowing us to publish the work here and to share it in other ways such as exhibitions and publicity.

When you submit maps or other images or information to the HDMA, you are giving us a perpetual, royalty-free license (that is, "permission") to use, reproduce, publish, and otherwise exercise intellectual property rights with respect to your submission, including storing it electronically and using or incorporating it in other works and in any media now known or later developed, including without limitation, in published books and public exhibitions. You also agree that we can use your submission at our discretion, including cropping, tinting, or otherwise altering it for our uses, and we can share it with the public through different methods. Finally, since this is a public project, you agree not to hold the HDMA or any of its members or agents responsible for any uses the HDMA or anyone else may make of your submission. If you have any concerns about sharing the information contained in your submission with the public, you should not submit it to the HDMA.

Buttons

Build Our Physical Archive: Use Postal Mail

In an effort to help increase the physical archive of the HDMA, all postal mail contributors will receive a free HDMA button as a thank-you.

We also have quite a few leftover posters, booklets, etc. (things we've used to promote the HDMA over the past couple years). So, (while supplies last) look for a surprise with your button as well.

Envelope

Extra credit for a good lookin' envelope. This smart one from Nina Sapountsis in Melbourne, Australia contained her recent contribution, a choclaty mud map.

In the mail from Jean Wilson

Here's another great one from Jean Wilson documenting the envelope's journey from Iowa to the HDMA. Don't get confused: the address is obscured because we have a different one now.
